► (1829-1912) Predicador y reformador religioso anglicano británico. Fue el fundador y primer general del Ejército de Salvación.

Líder religioso británico, fundador y general (1878–1912) del Ejército de Salvación. A la edad de 15 años, se convirtió y se hizo predicador protestante. En 1849 se mudó a Londres, donde fue predicador de la rama metodista New Connection (1852–61) hasta que se independizó. Con la ayuda de su esposa, Catherine Mumford Booth (1829–90), también predicadora y trabajadora social, fundó la Misión Cristiana en 1865, la que en 1878 se transformó en el Ejército de Salvación. Viajó a través del mundo dando conferencias y organizando ramas del Ejército. Sus propuestas para remediar los males sociales recibieron una amplia aceptación y el apoyo de Eduardo VII.
